How to Pray For a Christian

Sometimes it is hard to know how to pray for others. Other times it seems as though the list of prayers we have is so long, it is overwhelming. Overwhelming or not, we are called to pray.

I Thes 5:17 says, Pray without ceasing.

This was a letter written to the believers in Colossae.
Colossians 1:9-12

For this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for the attaining of all steadfastness and patience; joyously giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light.

Some ways to pray for other believers according to these verses:

1) that they may be filled with the knowledge of God's will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding.
2) that they will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord,
3) that they would please Him in all respects,
4) bear fruit in every good work,
5) increase in the knowledge of God.
6) that they would be strengthened with all power, for the attaining of all steadfastness & patience, and,
7) that they would joyously give thanks to God.

With the way the world is these days, with the huge number of people who do not know the Lord, and the people (non-christian and sadly, christians) who are being deceived with the ways of this world, we ought to be praying without ceasing for: our spouses, children, family members, friends, neighbors, and fellow believers.

Thanks for the reminder and the encouragement. You are right it can be hard to know how or what to pray for people - God's word is the best model.

I was just reading that verse this morning, and thought it was so good, i would have to try to fit it on a card!

This morning I've been directed to study and meditate on 1 Thess. 2:12 which you mentioned in your list (#2, I think) of ways to pray for Christians. This was really good, Amy. Now I'm off to have my time with the Lord. Thanks for adding to it. I'm going to print off what you wrote.
